Bailey’s Crossroads Celebrates 20 Years!

Hey Bloggers!

Did you know our Bailey’s Crossroads Community Shelter has been serving the Falls Church/Fairfax, VA area for 20 years now?! To help us celebrate we’re sharing some of our most inspiring client testimonials with our donors, partners, volunteers and friends who have made it possible for us to continue to inspire self-reliance, dignity and hope through health and human services!

Jeff’s Beginning

My name is Jeff.  I first met VOA staff member Samira at A-SPAN in December of 2013, where she offered assistance and provided bus tokens for me to visit Bailey’s Crossroads Homeless Shelter.

Since my stay, I have been blessed by my Case Manager with the ability to receive funds for my birth certificate and the transportation needed to sign up for healthcare at Bailey’s Health Clinic.

Volunteers of America Chesapeake, has provided me with a place to sleep for the winter, food, clothing and basic daily needs for my health.

I am also thankful for the transportation provided to access other programs.  I thank God and Jesus Christ for the opportunity to encounter and interact with the staff of VOA allowing me to see life from a new perspective. I am now working and saving money.

Krista’s Courage

My name is Krista and the first time I came to Bailey’s Shelter was in December of 2012 in the hypothermia program. I had come here because of domestic violence. As I was leaving the staff also made me feel I could be confident if I had to return, by reassuring me “We Got You”/ I was at Bailey’s then for only a month.

Even though my time spent was short, Bailey’s went as far as to contact First Lady Obama on my behalf.  They have advocated for me and have given me time to find some domestic violence help and to get help locating housing.  To date, I have been able to save some money, eat healthy, get some decent clothes, coats and shoes.  Another major blessing is the volunteers that come to the shelter. They are truly amazing and willing to assist us without judging.
