“If you love what you do, you will never work a day in your life.”
Tamyra is probably the shiest of our group, but when we asked her what quote motivates her, she was excited to share her story with us:
I don’t know where this quote originated but in my life it is absolutely true! When I enrolled in college, my plan was to become a Psychologist. I wanted to be a counselor or work in Forensics. Because I did not fare well in the natural sciences, Forensics was out of the window so counseling it was! While working my way through college, I worked for an organization that pushed me in a direction that has changed my life.
I began doing basic data entry, then was moved into the IT Department, this is when my love for technology developed. The organization then created a intranet and needed someone to maintain it. That person was me! They sent me to an 8 hour training class and then handed the intranet over to me.
By the time I graduated from Towson University with a Bachelor’s in Psychology, my plans had changed. I decided to enroll into a program for web design where I maintained a 4.0 GPA.
Over the years, my love for web design and everything that comes with it has grown. I am very fortunate that I am able to come to work every day here at Volunteers of America Chesapeake, do what I love, while helping our mission to inspire self-reliance, dignity and hope through health and human services.
